Well autumn has arrived and what better way to welcome in the change of season than planning all the different ways to get cosy at home? This week we talk to Alice Whiteley, founder of British sleepwear brand YAWN, whose collection of pyjamas are made with the softest cotton and original prints. She gives us the ultimate guide to relaxed evenings in…
Sunday Brunch Spot:
Brunches sadly a thing of the past (am sure they’ll be back). Munson’s in Ealing is a wonderful coffee shop and a great spot for a late breakfast.
Bliss out treatment:
Any kind of treatment sounds bliss!
Caipirinha on a night out, hot Ribena on a night in.
Saturday Night - Dancing till dawn or takeaway and a movie?
Dancing till dawn with friends and family – a family wedding last weekend was brilliant fun for just that reason
My favorite beauty products
Favourite day of the week and why:
Friday – as much as I can I try to spend Friday afternoon with the kids having wrapped up a hectic week of work. As a family we all love the anticipation of the weekend ahead.
My top health and fitness tip:
I couldn’t possibly give one as I am not brilliant at regular exercise. In the past I have enjoyed getting into Pilates and have started jogging a bit, badly…
Top tips for relaxing at home:
Disconnect from the outside world – it is really important to have some quiet time in the day to reflect and relax - ‘phone off, kettle on…’
You have just launched your first luxury sleepwear A/W14 collection, what is the inspiration for the collection?
I was having a tiring day and hunting for some PJs and couldn’t find any. I felt that there was a gap in the market for a characterful, design-led British relaxation brand aimed at 30+ women who don’t get enough downtime. I want to see Yawn grow to be a brilliant business that does the right thing and develops all kinds of wonderful products to relax with… Watch this space.
YAWN has already established some fantastic stockists and customers, have there been any moments in the lead up to the launch that have been difficult?
Yes! A start up is wonderfully challenging and incredibly exciting- but constantly throws up challenges. The day tends to involve a lot of problem solving but I try not to let things overwhelm me.
As a pyjama expert what, in your opinion, is the best way to get a good night’s beauty sleep?
A relaxing evening is heaven – a book, chocolate and a nice hot bath is a dynamite combination. Obviously wearing Yawn – currently a nightshirt.
What’s the best piece of advice would you like to pass on?
Find the right team and anything is possible. In any area of life.
If you had an extra hour in the day how would you choose to spend it?
Doing something entirely ‘other’ – spending time volunteering in the community, learning how to paint, making a fantastic quilt, speaking to my great friend in Australia… I have lots of good intentions for things I want to do but can’t currently fit them all in - I am hoping this is temporary.
What’s your beauty mantra?
‘Beauty is as beauty does’.
What are the last three things you bought on your bankcard?
A wedding present, a mouthguard for my son and a family photo album. The glamour!
